Jello Shots

My friends and I made the best Jell-O shots last weekend.

Here's the recipe we used, they came out perfect and had just the right amount of alcohol:

You'll need:

1 CUP BOILING WATER

1 3oz PACKAGE JELLO

3/4 CUP VODKA

1/4 COLD WATER

SHOT GLASSES or SMALL PLASTIC CUPS

Recipe:

Boil 1 cup of water (obviously) in measuring cup, then add the Jello and let it dissolve for about 2 minutes. Next add the vodka when that is dissolved, followed by the cold water. Stir until it's all mixed. Some sites say to let it cool, but I never have problems when I pour it directly into the cups or shot glasses. I like to use little plastic cups just because it's easier to get the jello out later on.

Once it's poured into cups, put it in the fridge to solidify for about 4 hours.

Box Sledding

campus

Last night I went sledding in a box. Had 2 shots of vodka and went out to take photos of my friends destroying snowmen. Two girls yelled out the window that they were assholes and someone worked hard to make the snowman. I gave them the finger...

Later on I ended up drinking a dark Ithaca Beer in the substance-free dorm, ironically, with some of my friend's football buddies.

After that we dug through the recycling bins outside and found some boxes. I found a perfect size box that gave me a few good runs down a hill, although I ended up on my face most of them. 

After our boxes got soggy we went to my dorm for some more clothing, gloves, hats, and more vodka. Then we trekked to the biggest hill on campus near the construction site. I almost got myself into the site, but my friends wouldn't let me in. Looking back, I'm kind of glad. There were other students at the hill with snowboards, but I just had my box which disintegrated after a couple more runs. Public safety came by while we were sledding. On campus, sledding is actually not allowed, but they didn't really care and never enforce it. They just make sure we're not stealing trays from the dining halls. Which I plan to do soon. :)

When I got back to my dorm later that night, I was soaked and freezing. My friends made me take a hot shower before they let me go to bed.

I woke up this morning with an awful hangover headache and an upset stomach. I also woke up to several missed calls from home telling me about the earthquake in Chile since we know several people there. I had to wait for my friends with the Excedrin to wake up, because that is my miracle drug for Saturday mornings. I also woke up to the sound of half my hall on shrooms which were popular this weekend I guess. Screaming and running killed my brain. But I eventually got up, put on pants, watched the news and went to breakfast. Belgian waffles and excedrin are definitely on my list of hangover fixers. :)

That was my night/morning. I hope for the best for those in Chile affected, and in the aftershocks in Argentina.

Laundry

I'm bored and waiting for my laundry to be finished... It's always a nightmare to do laundry here. By the end of the weekend there are mounds of clothes in every corner of the laundry room. Some are wet, some are dried. Some are half.

I was looking through my pictures. This is the first photo I ever really took, I was happy to find it. I think I took this in 7th grade. I don't think it's too bad. This was taken in Boston on a field trip (I miss those)

Thursday is always the most hectic day of the week for me. I have the most classes and my final article is also always due. This means tying up lose ends, writing the final copy. Praying all the sources came through during the week. And if they haven't, you're screwed by this point. I did pretty well this week with my time management. My sources all worked out. I'm sure my article won't have any issues with NASA. We'll see I guess. Next week is competition week for the paper. Hopefully we get some awards, well we always do, so hopefully we get some more :)

It is cold cold cold today. There is a 'severe winter conditions warning'. I wouldn't say it's too bad here, we got almost a foot of snow though. I also received amazing news that my one and only class tomorrow was cancelled so I will be sleeping in, drinking tea, and wearing sweatpants all day. I have no obligations until 7p.m. :)

NASA Involved

I just interviewed a woman I'm writing an article on because she is involved with a NASA program, and working on something really interesting. I'm not even going to start talking about because I don't want to be in trouble, and most of it went over my head anyway.

The conflict? My article is supposed to be approved by NASA before it's published, which is never allowed, at least I know with the publication I work for. So we'll see what happens with this. Moral of the story, I'm just hoping as a freshman I'm not trouble with an organization (especially NASA). Nothing I'm writing is controversial, I'm pretty sure. They just need to make sure the material is competition-safe. Yeah.

I would really just like to get this article over with, though the subject matter is really interesting, because it keeps making me think of my ex, studying aerospace engineering. A professor from his college is actually one of the competitors, which I find funny. 

I will probably write more about this later.....

Some people obsess over this question. Some people can't answer, and some people have a pre-recording of the answer and they love my pen to write it down.

Pentax Dilemma

I don't know why I always have issues with this camera, but I do. I am definitely more into digital. I am in love with my Canon Rebel XS. Using film is great and all, but I always screw a roll up somehow. This is the school camera, not my own. You get the camera for 48 hours at a time and I usually manage to screw up one roll every time. No idea how. Today I was shooting, on exposure 15 and then I just start hearing this awful grinding sound when I try winding it again after taking a shot. I didn't drop it, shake it, I am always very careful. I had to open it in order to get the film to work again so I could wind it back to take it out. Hopefully some of them came out. Ugh. I won't be sad when we finish our film unit. 

Although I have so much trouble with the cameras, I do enjoy printing and developing in the darkroom though. It always relieves stress when I'm having a bad day. I don't know what it is, but I love going through the process of developing and later printing them. There is something so much more satisfying about doing the process yourself instead of just loading it onto a computer and editing with photoshop.

I actually just wrote an article about how film is becoming obsolete. Wal-mart is closing their color photo processing center soon, which is my college's last place to get color film developed. We don't have our own color processing here, at least not much.

But that's my Pentax dilemma. I have to finish this shoot I'm doing by tomorrow at 5:30p.m. My film isn't coming til later in the afternoon. This will be fun. Maybe I'll post some of my prints when I get them back from my professor.

My name is Kelsey. I'm currently a Journalism major, photography. I go to school in upstate NY. Why did I start a blog? I enjoy writing and even though it seems to be all I do lately, it's nice to write about things that are not so serious. I've met a lot of interesting people at college, and have done a lot of interesting things. I always say, "hey I should write that down so I remember." So here I go. College is its own little world filled with studying, partying and everything in between. I work for the school paper here. I'm a news writer and a photographer. I don't know which I prefer. Sometimes I feel like I work for the paper more than I go to school. Writing for the paper, you get the opportunity to meet people anywhere in between socially awkward, crazy, exciting, and inspirational. I've loved the experience so far and as things worth writing about come up, I'll add those. Enjoy!!

In 2006/2007 I studied abroad in India. I lived with a host family in Amravati, India for 11 months. Hopefully I will be going back again this summer. I applied for a language program. If I get in I'll be studying at a college in Jaipur. Being in India changed my perspective on everything and sparked an interest in traveling. My only regret is that I didn't get enough photos. I had a crappy little camera, that was sufficient for remembering but there were so many things I'd like to go back and photograph.
